Jamie Humphries is a UK guitarist, now based in Stockholm, Sweden. As well as being a highly respected guitar tutor and author, his touring credits include Brian May, Kerry Ellis, The Australian Pink Floyd Show, and the Scandinavian Queen show “Champions of Rock”. He has also toured with the American classic rock show “Flashback; The Mystic Orchestra”. He has performed with Queen, Jeff Beck, Mike Rutherford of Genesis, Ronan Keating, Richie Kotzen, Vinnie Moore and Chad Smith. Jamie has also toured extensively on the official Queen production “We Will Rock You” in both the UK and Europe, holding the position of principle guitarist on guitar chair one in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Jamie has filmed and recorded a large catalogue of DVDs and backing tracks for the award winning guitar instructional company Lick Library, filming DVDs on such artists as Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Def Leppard, Metallica, and many others. He also contributed video lessons for Guitar Interactive, and has a regular technique column in Premier Guitar. He has also written and transcribed for Guitar Techniques, Guitarist, Total Guitar, and Guitar World and has been featured twice on Young Guitar magazine's DVD in Japan.
Jamie has recorded, written and transcribed several transcription books and tuition books with accompanying CDs. He transcribed/recorded many of the Total Accuracy “Jam With” books and CDs, on such artists as Joe Satriani, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Buddy Holly, Radiohead and Dire Straits. He has also written and recorded three tuition books and CD packages of his own published by Sanctuary Media; “Giants of Rock”, “Giants of Metal” and the best selling “Crash Course Electric Guitar”.
Jamie has been teaching guitar for more than 25 years, and has held down positions at such leading institutes as The ACM, Guildford, BIMM, Brighton and Guitar X, London. He has also performed and held educational clinics at the Musicians Institute in the USA and Japan. Jamie now runs his own online teaching practise; The Jamie Humphries Guitar Studio.
Jamie is also very active in recording and producing original music and music for other artists. He has written, recorded and produced his own album entitled “J”, featuring guest appearances from Richie Kotzen, and UK session guitarist Phil Hilborne which is now available to purchase and download on this website. He has also contributed guitar to various UK and European Top 40 sessions including the 2005 top 20 single Rocket (A Natural Gambler) which was also number #1 on BBC Radio 1's the Buzz Chart. This track was also the featured music of Virgin Radio, Sky Movies and the 2005 Winter Olympics. He has also composed music for television and film for Sony/KPM as well as being featured on the 2011 album "Guitar Heroes". He has also performed guitar on TV shows such as the BBC drama “The Hustle”, the BBC animated series “Freefonix”, and the ITV drama “The Fixer”.
He has mixed the Live in Montreax album for UK progressive band It Bites, and has mixed and produced two solo albums by guitarist/singer David Kilminster; guitarist for Pink Floyd legend Roger Waters, and progressive artist Steven Wilson. Jamie contributed guitars on Public Symphony's remastered version of their debut album, with the Times newspaper calling them "Pink Floyd for the Coldplay generation". Jamie performed live with Public Symphony supporting Jason Mraz. Jamie has worked and recorded with Dylan Burns of the Bodyrockers, and ZTT recording artist Lee Griffithis. Jamie's guitar playing can also be heard on other albums such as "Introducing" with Guthrie Govan, "For Eric" a tribute to the late Irish acoustic guitarist Eric Roche and the "Champions of Rock" live double CD. Jamie even hosted his own guitar instructional TV show on the "M Channel" on Sky TV.
Jamie has been an Ernie Ball/Musicman artist since 1998, and has held the position of product demonstrator in the UK. He has also performed at leading music trade shows in the UK, Germany and the USA for brands like Blackstar Amplification and Cornford Amplification.
2016 marks the start of a new exiting chapter in Jamie's career, with him performing across Europe on many of the leading Rock and Metal festivals on the "Gutterdämmerung" show including rock giants such as Slash, Lemmy, Joshua Homme, Iggy Pop, Grace Jones, Tom Araya, Eagles of Death Metal, Volbeat and Henry Rollins.
